Ingredients
A short list of breakfast ingredients blended into a rich, spoonable chocolate oatmeal.
For the Blended Oatmeal
- ⅓ cup gluten-free rolled oats
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
- 1 tbsp 80Noir Ultra 87.5% Dark Chocolate , finely shaved or gently melted
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- ½ tbsp almond butter
- ¾ cup almond milk, or milk of choice
- 2 soft pitted dates
Optional Toppings
- Cacao nibs
- Chopped almonds, hazelnuts or walnuts
- Fresh berries
- Extra almond butter
- Shaved 87.5% dark chocolate
- A small spoonful of Greek or coconut yoghurt
Method
Blend until completely smooth, then leave the oats and chia seeds to create their creamy, pudding-like texture.
- Add the gluten-free oats, chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, chia seeds, almond butter, almond milk and pitted dates to a blender.
- Add the shaved or gently melted 87.5% dark chocolate.
- Blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed.
- Check the consistency. Add a small splash of milk if you prefer a looser oatmeal, then blend again briefly.
- Pour the mixture into a breakfast jar, glass or bowl.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour, or leave overnight for a thicker, more developed texture.
- Before serving, stir well and add your chosen toppings.
- Enjoy chilled, or allow it to stand at room temperature for a few minutes for a softer finish.
Why It Makes A More Satisfying Breakfast
Oats, chia, protein powder, nut butter and dark chocolate create a breakfast with more texture and substance than a sweetened cereal or chocolate-flavoured snack alone.
Gluten-Free Oats
Oats provide carbohydrate and fibre, creating the foundation of a filling breakfast with a naturally creamy texture.
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds absorb liquid as the oatmeal chills, adding fibre, texture and naturally occurring plant-based fats.
Protein & Almond Butter
Protein powder and almond butter add richness and help make the blended oatmeal feel more substantial and complete.
87.5% Dark Chocolate
Ultra-dark chocolate brings depth, complexity and naturally occurring cocoa polyphenols with less sugar than conventional milk chocolate.
The Brownie Batter Texture
Smooth, dark and spoonable, with the comforting flavour of brownie batter and the ease of an overnight breakfast.
Smooth & Creamy
Blending breaks down the oats and chia seeds, creating a uniform pudding-like texture rather than a traditional bowl of porridge.
Deeply Chocolatey
Cocoa powder, chocolate protein and 87.5% dark chocolate build several layers of cacao flavour without relying on excessive sweetness.
Serving Suggestions
Keep it simple, or turn it into a more generous breakfast with fruit, yoghurt and contrasting texture.
Add strawberries, raspberries or blueberries for freshness and a naturally bright contrast to the darker cacao.
Finish with cacao nibs, chopped nuts, toasted coconut or a few extra pieces of dark chocolate.
Add a spoonful of Greek yoghurt, coconut yoghurt or a little extra almond milk immediately before serving.
Blend the night before for an easy breakfast when mornings are busy or you want one less decision to make.
The Final Serve
Gluten-free oats, dates, almond butter, chia and ultra-dark chocolate come together in a smooth breakfast that tastes like brownie batter but is prepared with the ingredients of a more considered morning meal.
